Is the holster for your conceal and carry gun giving you problems? Or maybe you just purchased your first CCW firearm and you’re ready to take it out with you. It’s important to note that not only are you carrying a gun for your safety, but you should also attempt to carry it in a way that’s undetectable. This is something that is not taken lightly. Therefore, check out these tips for finding a CCW holster that fits your firearm.

Outside the Waistband

Outside of the waistband holsters are just as they sound. They hold your gun on the outside of your pants so that you can easily access it in times of need. Although this is considered an old school way of carrying a gun, there are still benefits. One benefit to this style of holster is that it prevents poking or prodding from your gun. Other types of holsters can cause discomfort because they are close to the body. Outside of the waistband holsters, although effective, may not be as tight because they aren’t directly touching the body. Additionally, they may be more noticeable to the eye if a shirt is not covering it well. Snags on the shirt are more likely as well.

Inside the Waistband

The inside of the waistband is a popular holster option. These holsters clip to your belt and hold your gun on in the inside of your pants. Typically, these holsters can hold a firearm tighter because it is closer to your body. It’s also more concealable and less noticeable to the eye. A variable to keep in mind is that your gun may be prone to getting sweat on it because it’s closer to your body. If you decide to purchase a holster for the inside of your waistband, prepare to clean the outside of your gun and holster regularly.

Pocket Holsters

Pocket holsters attach to the pocket on your pants. It doesn’t attach to the inside, rather the outside of the pocket so that it can be removed with ease. This can protect the gun from snagging on clothes and provides a clean draw if needed. Friction is the glue, so to speak, that holds this holster closer to your body. The rough texture on the outside of the holster contributes to the friction. You can also take a look at these tactical backpacks with a holster. Although backpacks don’t always allow a quick firearm draw, they take away the discomfort of wearing a holster on your body.

With several different holster options, it can be hard to make a final decision over which one is best for you. Following these tips for finding a CCW holster that fits your firearm may help you make a confident decision.
